Without the last scene
The Guardian wrote that Pratelle carries the corpse of her mother and a giant sledgehammer in the boot of her car, back to Virtud. The town is occupied by robot copies of the neighbours. Nina, her sister, is the scientist who pushed that digitisation, including their mother Merche, who had a degenerative illness with no public diagnosis. The official prologue note says the game opens on a car crash; Virtue: Prologue, the free novella, is the stretch before that crash. I am not adding who was driving.
What several reviews circle
- Digitised people, and whether a copy has a soul.
- Care, dementia, and euthanasia, without a named disease.
- A family that hurts each other and still says, in the marketing line, “I still love you more than I hate you.” That line is the tagline from the launch news, not a transcript of a scene.
- A town that does not make room. The Guardian reads Pratelle as queer. Phrasemaker calls her Arab. SmashPad says she is in her thirties. Each of those is one outlet or a reading, not a store-page fact.
Jordi de Paco told Polygon: “AI sucks. This is not a debate.” That is the director’s position. It is not the only way a player can read the robots. He also named Alan Wake 2’s red light in dark pines, and Signalis, as visual references.
Deconstructeam and Selkie Harbour, both in Valencia, have worked together since 2022. The Steam launch note calls this a four-year collaboration. The game was in the Tribeca 2026 games lineup announced 13 May 2026. Characters are split out on the character page.
